Is anxiety and fear controlling your life?
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a normal human response to threatening situations including stress. It can be a positive experience and can improve our performance due to increased awareness (as part of the ‘flight or fight’ response). However, when anxiety becomes severe (such as panic) or lasts over a long period of time, it then becomes an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem in the UK and it is believed that over 10% of the population suffer some form of anxiety disorder, with social anxiety being the most common.

What causes anxiety?
There are two areas to consider here and these are:-
Our constitution – or our genetic vulnerability to anxiety. Some people are born worriers whilst others remain calm in most situations.
Our environmental situation – this relates to the situation we are in at the present plus past situations, which are usually unresolved, which still impact on us (usually at an unconscious level). People who have suffered trauma or abuse are more likely to suffer anxiety as adults.
